Audi has launched a more powerful version of the S8 high-performance luxury saloon, producing 605hp.
The S8 Plus has 85hp more than the standard model, and an overboost function produces up to 553lb-ft of torque, more than any Audi on sale.
Audi claims the highest power-to-weight ratio of any ‘premium sports saloon’ at 293hp per tonne, while the S8 Plus will accelerate from 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds.
The car uses the same 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 as the standard S8, but with modifications to the engine management system with speed and charge pressure boosting to its modified exhaust valves.
Maximum speed is limited to 155mph, but customers can choose a derestricted pack that allows top speed to reach 189mph, where permitted.
The S8 Plus uses an eight-speed automatic transmission and quattro all-wheel drive. Ordering will open in October, with prices starting at £97,700 on the road.
