The team at SMW Belfast Volvo are virtually cycling and rowing from the the dealership at Boucher Crescent in Belfast to Volvo’s factory in Gothenburg to raise money for CLIC Sargent and Alzheimer’s Society.

The whole SMW team are taking it in turns, for one of two hours each day, to cycle and row the 1,381 mile ‘virtual’ distance to make it to Sweden. This will be achieved by the team splitting the distance, covering the land miles on a bike machine and the sea miles on a rowing machine.

SMW have set a target of £1,381 to match the miles that will be covered by the charity fundraising event.

SMW owners, Agnew Group, have also agreed to match every pound raised by the team’s efforts.

Brian Gribben, general manager of SMW, said: “We’ve decided to take part in this challenge for Alzheimer’s Society and CLIC Sargent as they are two amazing organisations who work tirelessly to raise awareness on diseases that affect so many lives.

“It will be a tough challenge but it’s great to know that, as a team, we’ll be raising funds to help support people with dementia and cancer while funding research to find a cure.”

Those wanting to donate can do so through the dealership’s JustGiving page at www.justgiving.com/SMW-Volvo.

CLIC Sargent is the UK cancer charity for children and young people, while Alzheimer’s Society is the UK dementia support and research charity, there for anyone affected by any form of dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
