Peugeot has revised the 607 range by cutting prices and specifications and adding smaller petrol and diesel engines. The 138bhp 2-litre is £18,195, £1,600 cheaper than the 2.2S which falls by £1,400 to £19,795. The new 2.0 HDi is £19,395. The alarm and metallic paint are moved to the option list on all but the V6, and satellite navigation is now optional, not standard, on the 2.2SE. Peugeot fits satnav to most of the 406 range but few models in its significantly more expensive 607 range receive it as standard. Peugeot has added a Quiksilver special edition to the 206 range, joining the 106 and 806. Based on the 1.4 LX 3dr, it gains metallic paint, body-coloured bumpers, chrome exhaust, sports seats and revised interior trim, plus leather trim to the wheel and gear knob. The price is £10,640.
BMW has announced prices for the Mini, on sale in July, with the One £300 over the promised sub-£10,000. The Cooper is £11,600. The Mini One has a 90bhp 1.6-litre engine, the Cooper with 115bhp, plus rev counter, sports suspension, alloys and a black or white roof. Prices compare well with Lupo Sport (£10,160), Corsa SRI (£11,480), Clio 1.4 SI (£10,858) and Fiesta Zetec S (£10,980).
Chrysler's Neon is boosted by the150bhp R/T, at £13,995. Equipment includes aircon, leather and 4-disc in-dash CD changer. Automatic transmission moves to the options list on existing Neons, at £300.
Fiat has launched a fully-specced Abarth derivative of the Punto HGT. Costing £13,395, £1,000 more than the base car, it gains a full body kit, plenty of aluminium trim, and Abarth alloy wheels and steering wheel.
Nissan has extended its finance offers to many more models as well as extending the period of zero-rated interest. Micra Active gets 0% over 12 months, plus a year's free insurance. Almera Elegance joins SE and Sport models getting 24 months at 0%, the same applying to the Tino SE models and the entire Terrano II range.
Mitsubishi is giving customers of the Shogun Pinin 3dr the chance to opt for automatic transmission at no additional cost over the manual version.
Daewoo has 0% finance on all but the Lanos until the end of June. A special edition Nubira estate is launched with alloys, metallic paint, and 10-CD autochanger for £1,000 less than the 1.6SE on which it is based. The £10,995 Tacuma Xtra special edition is based around the £12,495 1.8SE and gains alloys and six-CD autochanger.
