Halfords has teamed up with MotorEasy to launch a warranty package for motorists.

The new initiative is said to future-proof motorists against parts price rises and reduce the financial uncertainty of car ownership.

In August a survey of 2,000 consumers for Halfords found one in six are trying to spend as little as possible on their motoring expenses, and its chief executive Graham Stapleton warned of a real risk to safety as motorists buy cheaper, older cars and struggle with maintenance costs.

In the MotorEasy partnership, Halfords Motoring Club members can buy the 12-month warranty, with free extended cover (minimum of three months) to help protect against the cost of mechanical failure.

The company has also launched a dedicated landing page for all its cost-saving services, including the recently launched Fuel Efficiency Pack. Created as an optional add-on to select Halfords Autocentre services, the new pack involves a non-invasive procedure to clean and remove harmful carbon deposits out of the car’s engine and fuel system.

It's not just products and paid-services included within the page, users can access a range of free checks Halfords offers, including brakes, tyres, and repairs checks.

The page also houses the brand’s money saving tips and advice, including how to maintain vehicle quality, how to avoid damages and breakdowns, and the best ways to save on servicing, maintenance and MOTs.

Karen Bellairs,  chief customer and commercial officer at Halfords, said: “At Halfords, we see it as our duty to help drivers motor for less, so we’re delighted to have a dedicated page that helps our customers do just that.

"Whether they’re looking for expert advice, a promotional offer, or a free safety check, drivers across the country know they can come to us whatever their motoring needs.”

Duncan McClure Fisher, chief of Intelligent Motoring which owns MotorEasy, said: "By working collaboratively, the motor industry can play a vital role in alleviating the financial burden so many consumers across the UK are facing today. This latest initiative from Halfords provides motorists with a go-to resource dedicated to delivering the best advice, support and protection by recognised and trusted experts."

Halfords completed the £62 million acquisition of the National service centre network, last year.

The deal included 239 garages and 60 mobile fitting vans from National Tyres and Autocare, Viking Wholesale Tyres, and Tyre Shopper-branded operations – along with 1,400 new employees.

The move follows the acquisition of South East motoring services provider Universal Tyre and Autocentres for £15m earlier this year and McConechy’s and Tyres on the Drive in 2019.
