A majority of British drivers want more reassurance about a vehicle’s condition when buying a second-hand car, according to new research by AA Cars.

A survey of UK drivers highlights the widespread concerns those buying a used car, with 91% agreeing that added reassurance about the car's condition would help.

Although 86% of drivers conduct thorough research about the model they are interested in, they often lack confidence in assessing the specific condition of a car affected by wear and tear.

Four fifths (81%) of car buyers worry that a second-hand vehicle might have hidden issues that only become apparent after the purchase.

It is estimated that of the 6.9 million used cars sold each year in the UK, fewer than 1% of buyers use an inspection service. However, 89% of drivers surveyed agree that an independent vehicle inspection would provide peace of mind.
