East Anglian motor retailer Donalds Group has added its first MG franchise and is set to add a second.

Donalds MG has opened in Peterborough at the Burghley Road site which was the company’s very first home when it launched in 1950.

It shares the location with a long-held Mazda franchise. In the past the Mazda operation had been twinned with Alfa Romeo since 2008, and Subaru before that.

Next month a second Donalds MG showroom will open 13 miles away at Stamford.

Chinese brand MG is launching its first zero emission, battery electric SUV, the ZS EV, with a maximum range of 163 miles, and it says it is not supply constrained, unlike many mainstream brands who’ve launched EVs lately.

Donalds MG brand manager Mark Love, who is responsible for both sites, said: “MG is the fastest-growing car brand in the country and a real motoring force to be reckoned with.

“By opening these two outlets we at Donalds are bringing a fresh new alternative to customers across the area.”

Sam Coulter, sales executive at the Peterborough MG dealership, said the ZS EV is one of the most affordable, stylish and user-friendly electric cars on the market.

“We fully expect it to be a huge hit with local drivers who care about the environment, and about their day-to-day running costs. I’m already taking enquiries about the new model and we expect to have an example on display in our showroom very soon.”

Donalds Group also represents Kia, Mazda and Volvo in East Anglia.
