BMW have promised a sporting character blended with outstanding efficiency, as well an array of innovative comfort, safety and infotainment equipment. Navigation is standard on the new X1 (and will be on all BMWs from September this year).

The car will feature an all-new range of engines and gearboxes, and the latest version of BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system. At launch, power output will range from 150 bhp in the two wheel drive sDrive18d to 231 bhp in the xDrive25d. The powertrain and chassis technology will be completely new, with the four cylinder engines being from BMW’s latest generation.

The BMW X1 xDrive20d and BMW X1 sDrive18d feature turbochargers with variable turbine geometry.  In both cases, maximum output is up 7hp on their predecessors, standing at a claimed 190hp and 150hp, The new BMW X1 xDrive20d, which is fitted as standard with the eight-speed Steptronic transmission (a manual option will be available from November 2015, but the sDrive18d will get a manual gearbox as standard), accelerates from 0 to 62mph in 7.6 seconds, while the new BMW X1 sDrive18d completes the same sprint in 9.2 seconds. The performance, increased over the previous model, will not come at the cost of emissions however. BMW say the sDrive18d will produce a CO2 figure of 114 g/km with 128 g/km for the xDrive20d.

While retaining some styling cues from its predecessor, the X1 has grown in height by to help create more interior space. BMW says the new model has more room passengers and luggage alike. Occupants will benefit from increased headroom, shoulder room and elbow room. Knee room is also up by 36mm, with that figure climbing to 66mm if the customer choses the optionally adjustable rear seat, which buyers with families to transport should appreciate.

Customers can choose from two non-metallic and 11 metallic exterior paint finishes for their new BMW X1, while the Estoril Blue metallic shade is also offered exclusively for the M Sport model.
