Audi has yet to finalize its criteria for dealerships to qualify to sell the flagship R8 supercar.

However, AM believes it will only be sold from a small number of outlets, possibly around one-third of the 115 dealerships, in city centre locations.

The new car, which will go on sale in spring 2007, will come with a detuned version of the Lamborghini Gallardo’s 5.0-litre V10, giving 450bhp, as well as the 420bhp V8 found in the RS4.

This is to ensure that sales of the more expensive Gallardo will not be affected.

A spokesperson for the manufacturer says: “We have not yet finalized qualifying criteria for the network. However, we can confirm the UK allocation will be 450 vehicles, with a list price guide of approximately £75,000.”

AM believes dealers will have to satisfy specific standards for the R8, including a dedicated showroom area, and significant investment in service tools and training.
