Review
Mazda's latest MX-5 range is now available in the UK with improved performance and specification at no extra cost.
While the price of the improved 1.6i remains unchanged at just £14,995, the upgraded 1.8-litre models cost £500 less than the versions they replace, at £15,495 for the 1.8i and £17,495 for the 1.8i Sport, which now also features a six-speed manual gearbox. Mazda has added a 1.8-litre model with four-speed automatic transmission, priced at £16,495.
All models now have power door locks, power windows, ABS, alarm, immobiliser and supportive bucket seats as standard. The 1.8i Sport also benefits from leather trim, remote central locking with boot release, plus power door mirrors and electric aerial.
Mazda has improved the engine performance, strengthened the body, fine-tuned the suspension, enhanced the safety features, and has improved comfort, convenience and styling.
Key changes include the use of a Sequential Valve Timing mechanism (S-VT) for the 1.8-litre engine, plus improved chassis and body performance, for more satisfying driving pleasure and safety.
The new 1.8-litre engine provides a top output of 146bhp at 7,000 rpm and maximum torque of 168Nm at 5,000 rpm. The result is acceleration from 0-62 mph in just 8.4 seconds and a top speed of 129 mph for the six-speed 1.8i Sport.
