Review

Audi is to progressively drop automatic transmissions from its entire model range. But those who like to take it easy behind the wheel needn't worry - the self-shifters are being replaced by Audi's new generation continuously variable transmissions (CVT).

Because they mechanically link the engine to the road wheels and allow it to operate at its optimum speed, CVT transmissions are more fuel efficient than conventional autos, and offer the benefit of seamless drive. Insiders see CVT becoming an Audi USP.
