Alfa Romeo has added a five-door version to the 147 range, together with a 2.0-litre manual transmission in the three and five-doors.

The additions go on sale in the UK on June 15. Alfa is also offering Connect, its new global interactive on-board communications system in all 147 versions.

Connect is a small screen (pictured) flanked by a numerical keypad and other controls and acts as a 'travelling companion', that can make phone calls, provide information, consult maps and select music. It's accessed by pressing a Connect key on the fascia which contacts operators in a centre near Milan. Speaking in a choice of 14 languages operators can recommend restaurants, book a hotel and in the future, buy an air ticket for the driver. They can also call the emergency services or offer step-by-step route guidance.
