Motorway has appointed former Sky TV and Now TV marketing expert Rachael Halliday into the newly-created role of brand marketing director.
Halliday, who has also held marketing roles at Red Bull, General Motors (GM) and Royal Caribbean has been tasked with “owning and evolving the company’s brand platform and developing go-to-market strategies and brand campaigns” at the used car marketplace, Motorway said.
Her appointment comes as the business bids to further scales and expand its proposition, 12 months after it achieved ‘unicorn’ status with a $1 billion (£750m) valuation.
Halliday will report to Motorway’s chief marketing officer Lloyd Page, who said: “We are delighted to welcome Rachael to the Motorway team. She brings with her a wealth of experience in brand building and devising successful go-to-market strategies which will be invaluable as we continue our mission to build a better car market for everyone. We can’t wait for her to get started.”
Halliday said: “I’m thrilled to be joining such a pioneering business which combines best-in-class technology and innovation with real customer focus. Motorway has had an incredible year and I’m looking forward to joining the team to accelerate that growth in 2023 and beyond.”
Halliday’s appointment comes just days after it emerged that Motorway had fallen foul of a complaint to the Advertising Strandards Authority (ASA).
AM reported on Wednesday (November 30) that a compliant from car buying rival WeBuyAnyCar had resulted in a ban on TV and radio adverts which claimed it could offer motorists “up to £1,000 more” for their used car.
Twelve months ago a television advert for the Motorway used car marketplace was banned following an allegation that it “encouraged driving behaviour that was dangerous”.
Earlier this year Motorway reported that it had delivered a 200% uplift un used vehicles sales via its online marketplace in the first half of 2022.
Record numbers of motorists turned to the online car buying site during the period, with daily sales of over 1,000 vehicles helping to generate resulting in over £750 million in completed transactions.
The business now claims to help a nationwide network of more than 5,000 dealers get even greater access to the high quality used car stock.
