Accountancy firm BDO has launched its 2016 Motor Salary Survey to track average salaries across 27 positions in the industry.

The report will reveal average HR manager pay for the first time in the 2016 results. Dealerships that submit information for the survey will receive a free full copy of the report.

The purpose of BDO’s survey is to provide dealer groups with a guide on the current levels and trends of remuneration packages in the industry.

James Evans, BDO audit manager, said: “We believe the survey to be a powerful tool in managing the HR process.

“Salary expense accounts for approximately 50% of the gross profit and in an industry which has tight margins means ensuring you are remunerating the best people is key.”

According to BDO’s Motor Retail Motor Salary Survey 2015, the biggest change in automotive pay last year was at the top level. While still some way off the £222,000 paid to chief executives in 2011, average pay for the position increased 39% last year, to £181,000.

Over the same period, finance directors’ pay has leapt 19%, to £138,000 – its highest level in five years. However, pay for both job roles was static in 2014 and 2013.

The deadline for 2016 submissions is August 5 and dealers that want to take part or need more information should contact molly.brigg@bdo.co.uk.
