NK Motor Group’s Kia dealership in Derby has reached a major milestone with its 35,000th car driven off the forecourt since relocating to its Pride Park site in 2005.
The dealership, which also sells around 200 used cars monthly from its Derby and Chilwell locations, exceeded 2,500 new Kia sales last year despite undergoing a major refurbishment. The 12-month project included the addition of six new upper-floor offices, a double mezzanine space, and a full showroom makeover.
Now employing 120 staff, NK Motors has doubled its turnover over the past decade and expects turnover of £100 million in 2025, building on the £80 million achieved in 2024.
Group managing director Sanj Kumar said: “Kia cars have come a long way, and customers love the quality, high specifications, and seven-year warranties.”
“But our success is also about how we treat our customers and the fantastic environment we provide at our Derby showroom. With this refurbishment, we have gone above and beyond industry standards, and we’re delighted with both the results and the increased sales.”
The NK Motor Group also operates a dealership in Eldon Road Business Park, Chilwell, where founder Nindy Kumar established the company in 1981.
Originally a mechanic and MOT centre, the business expanded into used car sales before a 1999 deal to purchase 150 Kia vehicles from the South Korean manufacturer.
“We’ve come a long way since my dad opened his garage in 1981,” said Kumar. “With a combination of hard work, shrewd business decisions, and a bit of luck, we’re still growing and have even bigger plans for the future.”
