Citroen dealers are now accepting orders for the new C5 X, which is priced from £26,490.
The new model is said to combine the benefits of a saloon, estate and SUV and will act as the brand’s flagship model when it arrives in showrooms in late spring.
It follows a similar design concept to the recently-launched C4.
Sharing a platform with the existing C5 Aircross, the new C5 X uses an extended wheelbase to improve passenger space, while the 545-litre boot offers the practicality of a traditional estate car.
The C5 X is available with one of two PureTech petrol engines and a plug-in hybrid powertrain, from launch.
Speaking to AM last year, Citroen UK managing director, Eurig Druce, spoke of his hopes that an influx of new product will help stem the tide of lost sales, with no fewer than 11 model derivatives being launched over a 16-month period as the brand kick-starts its electrification strategy.
Petrol-powered variants are available with either a 1.2-litre PureTech 130PS unit, or a 1.6-litre PureTech 180 engine. All models feature an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The C5 X Hybrid has 225PS and is capable of up to 34 miles in full-electric mode, thanks to a 12.4kWh battery.
Citroen says the C5 X is a comfort-focused model and utilises its Advanced Comfort Suspension and Advanced Comfort seats as standard.
It also debuts a new infotainment system for the brand, provided via a 12-inch touchscreen.
The C5 X line-up starts with Sense Plus trim, which comes with 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, part leather-effect seats sat nav, front and rear parking sensors, and a reversing camera.
Shine models add satin chrome trim on the rear bumper, leather and leather-effect seats, a heated steering wheel and LED ambient lighting.
The 10-inch central touchscreen is upgraded to a 12-inch unit on Shine models, while buyers also benefit from a head-up display and wireless smartphone charging.
Range-topping Shine Plus versions feature extra tinted quarter-panel windows at the rear, leather seats with electric adjustment heaters, acoustically insulated front and rear windows, a motorised tailgate, blind spot detection and a 360-degree reversing camera.
Hybrid versions all come as standard with a 7.4kW single-phase on-board charger and remote temperature pre-conditioning. The C5 X Hybrid also introduces a custom user interface that helps drivers get the most out of the Hybrid system – highlighting remaining range and the driving mode in use.
