Volvo has added to its alternative fuel vehicle (AFV) line-up with the addition of its new S60 T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid – with prices from £49,805.

The Swedish carmaker’s new PHEV saloon car has officially gone on sale this week with claims of 39g/km CO2 emissions and a combined fuel economy under the WLTP test cycle of 176.5mpg.

The model, which has an electric-only range of up to 36 miles and a combined power output of 390PS.

Volvo has also expanded the S60 range’s trim levels with the launch of its new AFV, with R-Design Edition being replaced by R-Design Plus and joined by an Inscription Plus derivative.

Matt Galvin, sales director of Volvo Car UK, said: “The S60’s spring launch couldn’t have gone better.

“The high-specification R-Design Edition variants were extremely well received by both customers and retailers.

“Now, with R-Design Plus and Inscription Plus, we can offer the choice of a more focused driving experience or something more luxurious – qualities that resonate strongly with private owners and business users in the premium mid-size saloon market.

“Add the petrol-electric plug-in hybrid T8 Twin Engine to the mix and we’re sure the extended S60 range will make a significant contribution to Volvo Car UK’s continued sales success.”

The Volvo S60 is also available with a 250PS T5 petrol engine, while the range will soon by joined by a 405PS high-performance Polestar engineered version.

Standard equipment on both R-Design Plus and Inscription Plus trim levels includes adaptive LED headlights, front and rear parking sensors, sat-nav, two-zone climate control, heated front seat and eight-speed automatic gearboxes.

The sporty R-Design Plus trim level includes a head-up display, gearshift paddles, high gloss black exterior trim elements, a choice of 18-, 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels and part-leather sports seats.

T5 versions also feature sports suspension and a 12mm lower ride height, while the T8 comes with standard suspension.

Inscription Plus aims to offer a more luxurious experience. The exterior features chrome trim, while the cabin offers Nappa full-leather upholstery, Driftwood décor inlays and cooled seats.
