Marshall Motor Group is to scale back its partnership with Stellantis, leading to the closure of four dealerships: Peugeot showrooms in Canterbury, Ashford, and Peterborough, as well as its Vauxhall dealership in Peterborough.
The announcement follows news that Marshall Motor Group will also close its Volkswagen dealerships in Horsham and Aylesbury by the end of March.
Employees at the affected dealerships were reportedly taken by surprise when informed of the closures on February 28.
"When the directors came down to tell us last week, they said it wasn’t linked to performance and basically it’s because Marshall is downsizing its number of Stellantis sites for whatever reason,” said a member of staff.
The company has stated that it is working to minimise disruption for staff and find alternative roles within the business where possible.
The closure of Marshall Vauxhall Peterborough comes soon after Marshall also lost its new car sales franchise for Land Rover and Jaguar in the city. Its flagship JLR site, beside a Volvo dealership, is now an authorised repairer.
