Renault’s long-awaited Mégane E-Tech Electric follow-up to the Zoe EV is now available to order, with prices from £35,995.
The French carmaker’s first car to be launched under a ‘Renaulution’ strategy which includes the launch of 10 new electric vehicles (EV) by 2025, the new crossover model also signals a debut for its CMF-EV platform.
Available with a choice of two batteries – 40kWh for a range of up to 186 miles and 60kWh for up to 280 miles – the Mégane E-Tech Electric can be ordered with a choice of 96kW (130PS) or 160kW (218PS) outputs, providing a 0-62mph time as quick as 7.4 seconds.
Among its charging options will be a DC option allowing a rate of delivery of up to 130 kW, meaning up to 186 miles of range could be added in just 30 minutes.
Last month Renault began accepting pre-orders the Megane E-Tech, allowing prospective customers to secure one of the first examples of the model for a £500 deposit.
More room, more tech
Renault claims the interior dimensions of all-new Megane E-Tech Electric are similar, if not better, than its petrol and diesel powered predeccessors.
It features a 440-litre boot with a 22-litre charge cable storage area accessible via a removeable floor panel.
All the Mégane E-Tech Electric’s upholstery is made from recycled materials.
Entry-level versions make use of a nine-inch multimedia screen while further up the range a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel combines with a 12-inch multimedia screen.
The ‘instrument panel’ section of the OpenR screen accommodates four different driver displays according to their priorities: driving layout, navigation layout, zen layout and battery layout.
A new three-part system employs a new heat pump to help improve efficiency over the Zoe while heat from the powertrain is also re-used to heat the cockpit.
Customers can choose from Equilibre, Techno, and a range-topping Launch Edition trim levels.
Trim highlights
Equilibre features 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, full LED headlights, a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, rear park assist, rear view camera, 12.3-inch instrument cluster, 9-inch OpenR infotainment display with navigation among its specification highlights.
Among its additions, Techno adds 20-inch Soren alloy wheels, full adaptive LED headlights with automatic high/low beam, adaptive cruise control, contrasting door mirrors, and a shark fin antenna.
Inside, the Equilibre’s black palate is replaced by grey and black upholstery made from synthetic leather and recycled materials, while tinted rear windows, a frameless auto-dimming rear-view mirror and 48-colour interior ambient lighting add to the spec.
The range-topping Launch Edition features 20-inch Enos alloys and an upgraded interior trim with a nine-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, smart rear-view mirror, and around view 3D camera system.
Customers of the Megane E-Tech Electric, can also take advantage of Mobilize Charge Pass will allows access to over 7,000 charge points in the UK.
