The Honda Jass has topped the list of the most reliable used cars for 2024, according to data from Warranty Solutions Group (WSG).
The findings are based on a sample of 5,000 vehicle repair claims paid by the company between January 1 and December 31 across all classes of used car.
To ensure a fair analysis, the data excluded any models with less than 300 sales across WSG’s dealer network.
The Honda Jazz took the crown as most reliable, with an impressively low claim rate of just 2.60%.
The top three most common claims for the Jazz were starter motors/solenoids averaging £303.88, battery replacements (£284.95) and air conditioning compressors (£701.09).
The Toyota Yaris came a close second with a claim rate of 2.94%.
The most common issues with the Yaris were air conditioning compressors averaging £451.72), concentric slave cylinders (£355.85), and batteries (£422.66).
The Volkswagen T-Roc sat in third place with a claim rate of 3.05%.
The top three top issues with the T-Roc were ignition coils averaging £174.24, air conditioning condensers (£372.85) and water pumps (£381.94).
Sitting at the bottom of the top 20 most reliable used cars is the Hyundai i10 with a claim rate of 7.19%.
The top three problems facing owners were revealed to be air conditioning compressors (£534.96), starter motors /solenoids (£289.19) and steering column joints and bearings (£1,773.06).
Martin Binnee, operations director of WSG, said: "Brands like Toyota, Honda, and Volkswagen continue to set the standard for reliability, with standout models such as the Jazz, Yaris, and T-Roc.
"Additionally, premium brands like Lexus, as well as dependable options from Subaru and Hyundai, still remain trusted choices for durability and quality.
"Advanced diagnostic systems and refined manufacturing practices have significantly extended the lifespan of today’s vehicles.
"As electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrids gain popularity, their reliability has seen remarkable improvements."
Binnee said customers that are considering older EVs need to assess battery health to avoid costly replacement.
He added: "While used cars equipped with advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) or sophisticated infotainment features offer convenience, these technologies may encounter issues as they age.
"Repairs for such systems can be expensive, so it’s wise to consider potential maintenance costs when making a purchase."
