Cars badged Honda Prelude will be back in UK franchised dealerships from the end of 2025, more than two decades since the last Prelude coupe was culled.

The new petrol-electric hybrid coupe will make its UK debut in concept car form at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this month, and Honda has confirmed the production model will be heading to the UK and mainland Europe.

Based on the Civic, the two-door coupe will appeal to a small niche in the UK market.

Tomoyuki Yamagami, chief engineer at Honda Motor, said: “The new Prelude not only marks the latest chapter in our ever evolving hybrid story, it is also the product of 25 years of pioneering hybrid research and development."

He said the carmaker will ensure this Honda Prelude maintains its ‘sporty’ DNA by perfectly blending the efficiency and environmental advantages of electrified driving with an exhilarating experience behind the wheel.

“In addition, the Prelude demonstrates the continued importance of hybrid powertrains as part of Honda’s automobile electrification strategy – a key step towards our commitment for 100% of new vehicle sales to be battery electric or hydrogen fuel cell by 2040.”

Today, Honda’s mainstream automobile range is fully electrified, with Jazz, Civic, HR-V, ZR-V and CR-V all available with e:HEV powertrains as standard.

It also sells two electric cars in the UK: the Honda e and the e:Ny1.
