Online car marketplace Carwow forecasts a robust start to 2025, driven by high consumer demand for used cars.
During the last quarter of 2024, used car enquiries placed with dealers via Carwow surged by 49% compared to the same period in 2023.
New car configurations also saw a 12% increase, alongside a 14% rise in site visits during the ‘Twixmas’ period between Christmas and New Year.
On December 27th alone, over 750 cars were listed in Carwow’s online auctions, signalling a growing trend of consumers initiating their car-changing process during the holiday season.
A recent Carwow survey revealed that 30% of car buyers are now more inclined to purchase used cars rather than new ones. While new car registrations may experience a slight uptick in 2025, thanks to OEM investments to stimulate EV sales, ongoing challenges in the new car market suggest a continued preference for used vehicles.
The growth in used car interest aligns with broader trends seen on Carwow’s platform. In 2024, the marketplace experienced a 23% year-on-year increase in overall visitor numbers, reflecting a strong appetite for both new and used car options.
Ben Carter, chief customer and marketing officer at Carwow, said: “Our data shows that the New Year often triggers car-changing research for many consumers. Retailers can maximise their chances of success by using Carwow to acquire used stock, which they can then advertise to millions of consumers to drive sales on both Carwow and Auto Express.”
