Jeep is supporting the Cambridge University Boat Club as its official tow car provider at this year’s BNY Mellon Boat Race in London.
A Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland will tow the 3000kg trailer containing the Cambridge crew’s 60ft German-built rowing boat and trailer to Putney for the start of the famous event.
Chief coach at the club Steve Trapmore MBE said: “There are few cars, of the right size and towing capacity, that are suitable for this job, but the Jeep is perfect.
“It tows beautifully, the boot provides ample storage for our equipment, and it still gives us the flexibility to carry a couple of athletes if we need. It is the right vehicle in every respect.”
After the famous boat race finishes the Boat Club will keep the Grand Cherokee while they attend the GB National Team selection trials during April.
Head of brand at Jeep UK, Damien Dally, said: “We are delighted to loan a Jeep Grand Cherokee to the Cambridge University Boat Club, and wish them every success in the race.
“It’s comfortable, spacious and, as a tow vehicle, I can’t think of anything better to take that famous boat down to the Putney start line. I’m sure the event will be a fantastic spectacle on Saturday.”
The Jeep features a 247bhp 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel engine and a towing capacity of 3500kg.
