BYD is set to expand its UK range with the launch of the new Atto 2, a compact SUV aimed at competing with the Jeep Avenger, Hyundai Kona, and Vauxhall Frontera.

The Atto 2 will go on sale in February, showcasing BYD's Blade Battery and, for the first time in a compact model, Cell-to-Body (CTB) construction.

This design integrates the battery directly into the vehicle chassis, with the battery's top cover doubling as the floor of the passenger cabin.

Initially, the Atto 2 will be available with a 45.1kWh battery, providing a range of 193 miles, with a larger battery option planned for future release.

A single front-mounted motor delivers 177PS to the front wheels. The SUV’s flat floor design enhances passenger space, while practicality is further boosted by a 400-litre boot.

Measuring 4,310mm in length, 1,830mm in width, and 1,675mm in height, the Atto 2 is 145mm shorter and 45mm narrower than the Atto 3 but offers a substantial wheelbase of 2,620mm.

Full pricing and specifications will be revealed in February, but the starting price is expected to be around £30,000.

BYD executive vice president Stella Li esaid: “We’re excited to start 2025 with another important model for our plans in Europe. The B-segment SUV class is incredibly popular here, and with the Atto 2, we have an agile and versatile offering that will appeal to that large potential customer base.

"It takes all of BYD’s strengths in batteries, electric motors, and Cell-to-Body construction and combines them in a compact package that brings new intelligent technologies to the urban SUV class.”
