Audi has expanded its TT sports car range with the launch of a new TT offroad concept model at the Beijing Motor Show.
The new concept is a plug-in hybrid and features two electric motors with a 406bhp output. Audi says the concept is capable of 148mpg and can accelerate from 0-62mph in 5.2 seconds.
The Audi TT offroad concept can travel for 30 miles in pure EV mode and has a total range of 546 miles in combination with the four-cylinder 2.0-litre TFSI engine.
The German brand is intending to launch several Audi crossovers using the TT name.
Audi is waiting to see reaction to the TT Offroad before it makes a decision on production. The TT range could also be joined by a three-door Allroad Shooting Brake model.
Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, member of the board of management for technical development, said: “The Audi TT offroad concept provides a glimpse of how we might imagine a new model in the future TT family.
“It combines the sporty genes of the TT with the strengths of a compact Audi SUV.”
