Six modern vehicle technicians from independent workshops, franchised dealers and fast fits, now await the final round of Top Technician 2011.

The six technicians came top in the first stage online test covering theory and diagnostic repair scenarios and pulled through the regional heats which challenged their practical competence at finding faults on a variety of cars.

They now face a day of assessments, created by chief judge at the Institute of the Motor Industry, at the impressive Honda Institute in Slough on March 4th.

"Each year, the standard notches up that bit higher," said chief judge Ian Gillgrass.

The final six vying for the title of Top Technician 2011 and a prize package worth over £12,000 are:

. Clive Atthowe of Clive Atthowe Tuning in Norwich
. Lee Collins of the Kwik Fit Group in Manchester
. Gareth Edwards of Gwyndaf Evans Motors in Gwynedd
. Jason Evans of Cotswold BMW Hereford
. Steve Smith of Hills Toyota in Woodford Green, Essex
. John Tinham of John Tinham Motor Engineer in Chelmsford

The winner will be revealed on stand 4-G40 at Workshop 2011, which is part of the Commercial Vehicle Show, from April 12-14th at the NEC in Birmingham.

The exhibition is a showcase for the tools, kit and training information needed by anyone involved in the service and repair of vehicles – whether motorbikes, cars, vans or trucks.
