Inchcape Retail has signed a deal with waste management company SWR which will cut its waste disposal costs by 20%.
The group, with more than 130 dealerships, has adopted a new bespoke waste management plan developed by SWR for all its sites to increase recycling and reduce costs.
The streamlined waste management process is expected to yield immediate savings of about 20% from increased recycling and a reduction in the amount of waste sent to landfill.
Richard Brown, head of SWR’s Automotive Division, said: “The automotive industry produces a lot of bulky waste, which can be costly and difficult to dispose of.
"With Landfill Tax prices set to continue to rise to £72 a tonne by 2013, it is increasingly important to divert as much waste away from landfill as possible.
“Aside from the cost, organisations have an environmental responsibility to dispose of their waste in an appropriate way and Inchcape is leading by example in this respect.”
