Toyota has revealed a new five-seat sports car concept which will premier at the Tokyo Motor Show on October 24.
The new model could mark the return of sportier models from Toyota in UK showrooms to provide a halo product back into the model range.
The rear-wheel drive FT-86 has a 2.0-litre boxer engine but other than that, details are scarce on the new car.
It’s not been confirmed whether the new model will go into production or if it will ever go on sale in the UK.
A Toyota dealer told AM: “We do want a halo product to come back to the range. We’re missing the sexier cars like the MR2 and Celica and there has been much more focus on family products.”
The Celica's last full year of sales was in 2006 when it sold 1,549 units. In it's peak year of 2001, the last Celica model sold 6,171 units.
