Barkers Motor Group in Yorkshire is hoping to expand representation with its French marques later this year.

Company secretary David Plummer told AM that the £60 million turnover motor retailer expects to open a Citroen dealership in Wakefield at the turn of the year. It is currently an open point.

Barkers Motor Group already represents the franchise at Grimsby, South Milford and Richmond, where it also plans to add a Peugeot authorised repairer franchise. It has a Peugeot dealership in Malton.

Plummer said the changes should boost turnover to around £70 million.

It follows the sale earlier this month of its Skoda business in Hull to a Skoda sponsored retailer, Royce Roberts. Roberts' new Skoda site officially began trading on July 1, and is now in the middle of a two week refurbishment programme.

“We decided there would be more profit in renting the site to Volkswagen Group than carrying on with the business ourselves,” said Plummer.

However the group’s other Skoda outlet, in Grimsby, is “going well”, he added.
