New specialist products are set to help Audi achieve its aim of being Britain’s top premium car brand in the next three years.

After breaking the 100,000 registrations barrier in UK sales last year, the German firm’s new plan is for its annual sales volume to reach 120,000 units by 2010.

Next week’s launch of the A3 Cabriolet is expected to add 5,500 to sales in 2009 and officials are confident a further 8,000 sales will be created by the Q5 sport utility model due to arrive at the end of this year.

Significant extra volume is also anticipated from the A1 small car, due in 2010.

“We have other niche products in the pipeline but they’re still on the secret list.

What does seem clear is that the 120,000 figure is very much in our sights.

“It is entirely possible that we can overtake BMW without increasing the volume of our A3 and A4 core products,” said Audi UK spokesman Jon Zammett.
