GAZ, Russia’s second largest carmaker and owner of LDV, has said it is in talks with Chrysler and General Motors about a possible joint venture in passenger cars.

Leonid Dolgov, chief executive of Gaz's car division, told the Financial Times it was "no secret" his company was involved in the talks with Chrysler.

A Chrysler spokesman confirmed the company's "ongoing relationship with GAZ".

Chrysler already provides GAZ with engines for its saloon and van models and is also seeking to develop a version of the Sebring.

Dolgov said GAZ had signed a letter of intent with GM in September to develop an affordable car.
