Representing a total investment of £7m, the five acre leasehold site is situated on a prime location, just off the M4 motorway. Owner JD Cleverly Ltd, which took over the Audi franchise in 2003, has a number of dealerships in south Wales, including Ford sites in Brecon, Chepstow, Cwmbran and Newport; a VW outlet in Merthyr and a Škoda dealership in Newport.
Head of business Gavin Cleverly tells AM: “We have worked for the last three years towards this move, so we are delighted by our early success. Showroom and workshop traffic is already very good and the site’s additional facilities are also proving popular.”
The 19-car showroom and servicing area covers 3,000sq m, with 75 external customer parking spaces and a 19-bay service department. The operation employs 50 staff, all brought over from its old site on Hadfield Road, Cardiff.
Due to increasing demand, Cleverly expects to appoint more technicians and aftersales staff in the next few weeks.
The dealership boasts several added value features such as conference facilities for 50 delegates and a healthy food café with free internet access.
“A 19-bay workshop means we would be looking at a courtesy car fleet of some 80 cars, so we are having to find ways in order to speed up services, while ensuring a quality experience for the customer,” says Cleverly.
“The café helps with this, and our on-site valet bay and roll over car wash help condense the servicing process.”
JD Cleverly now employs more than 320 people in south Wales and has grown into a £130m turnover business.
