This increase in sales raised Hyundai’s market share to 1.42%.
The Coupe was the best selling car in January, which saw a 45% increase in sale. The Tucson, Sante Fe and Terracan helped Hyundai push its 4x4 sales up by 17%, which also gives it an SUV segment market share of 7.8%.
Tony Whitehorn, Hyundai Motor UK managing director, said: "Hyundai’s strong January performance in a weak overall market is a clear signal of the inherent strengths in our model range and its potential to deliver even better results as the year progresses.
"This year promises to be one of exciting developments for Hyundai, with key new models arriving in showrooms, led by the Amica city car, which will go on sale later this month and the new Santa Fe, to be launched at the Geneva Motor Show next month."
