Proton Cars has begun its Cars to the People tour, which it hopes will raise brand awareness and highlight its link with Lotus.

A 30ft rig will display a Gen-2 and Lotus Elise at 16 events around the UK as part of a 12-week tour. At selected locations, the full Proton range will be on show, including the facelifted Impian and Jumbuck. The new Savvy supermini will be displayed later in the tour.

The tour started in Exeter, at the Ideal Home Show, and has since visited Preston and Sheffield. Other locations include Portsmouth, Norwich, Bristol, Grimsby, Glasgow, Dundee and Birmingham, before ending at Manchester on October 15.

“This event is a significant investment for Proton Cars and highlights our commitment to raising brand awareness,” says Simon Park, Proton general manager of sales and marketing. “Cars to the People presents an excellent opportunity to put our cars in front of over one million people and will reinforce our position in the market.”

  • Proton will discontinue the Jumbuck next summer. It is considering a pick-up version of the Gen-2 using its own engine, instead of Mitsubishi’s 1.5-litre petrol which powers Jumbuck.
