Traffic in Great Britain rose by an estimated 1.7% between 2003 and 2004 according to the Department for Transport.

Motorway traffic increased by 3.9%, much of it heavy goods vehicle and light van traffic, which increased by 3.1% and 5.1% respectively. Two wheeled vehicle traffic fell by 8.1%.
