Renault has launched two new special editions in the Megane range, called the Oasis and Scénic Maxim, in an attempt to compete against a swathe of new models in the lower-medium sector.

Prices start at £10,995, with order books open now.

The Megane Oasis, costs £300 more than the current mid-range Expression model, but comes with £1,250 worth of added equipment.

In addition to equipment like 60W CD-RDS radio, air conditioning, automatic headlamps and windscreen wipers, the Oasis models also has panoramic glass sunroof, Thatcham Category 1 alarm and electrically heated folding door mirrors.

Options include alloy wheels (£500), ESP with ASR traction control and CSV understeer control (£750), metallic paint (£325) and tyre pressure monitor (£250).

The Oasis is available on four of the Mégane family’s bodystyles: Hatch, Sport Hatch, Sport Saloon and Sport Tourer, and six economical engine and transmission combinations – three petrol and three diesel – 1.4 16V 98, 1.6 VVT 115 and 1.6 VVT 115 Auto, plus dCi 86 Euro IV, dCi 100 and dCi 100 Auto.

Based on the Dynamique model, sitting just below the Privilège, the Maxim special edition costs £500 more than the equivalent Dynamique, yet boasts extras of 16-inch Louxor alloy wheels, climate control, cruise control with speed limiter, part leather upholstery and sliding centre storage unit worth £1,150.

Standard equipment includes ABS with EBD (electronic brake distribution), automatic headlamps and windscreen wipers, front and rear electric windows, 60W CD-RDS radio. Engine options start with the 1.6 VVT 115, followed by even more potent engines – 2.0 VVT 136 in both manual and automatic, 2.0 Turbo 165 and 1.9 dCi 120.
