A dealer from the Isle of Wight has received a two-year suspended prison sentence for defrauding the Inland Revenue.

Adrian Chapman, who traded as Chapman Cars in Newport, admitted altering sales receipts so that part exchange cars he later sold for cash did not appear in his business accounts.

Newport Crown Court was told Chapman was suspected of pocketing £200,000 during an 11-year period up to 2003, from which the lost tax revenue was estimated to be £67,000.

Chapman has been ordered to pay £125,000 plus costs totalling £12,000 within 28 days.
