Nissan chief executive Carlos Ghosn is to become a co-chairman of the company after current chairman Yoshikazu Hanawa announced he is to step down.
Ghosn will become co-chairman with Itaru Koeda, executive vice president in charge of purchasing.
The management changes will be proposed and subject to approval at a June 19 shareholders' meeting, the company said in a statement.
