Castrol has launched a brake fluid programme that it claims will help dealers to boost aftersales profits.

The Response Brake Fluid Package was set up following Castrol research into motorists' awareness of brake fluid. It found that more than half did not understand that brake fluid deteriorates over time and miles.

The company believes that up to one-third of vehicles may be running with fluid levels below the manufacturer's recommended minimum.

A Castrol spokesman said: “The profit margins are substantial for dealers – their initial outlay will be quickly returned. “It's a new area for Castrol and dealers – the field of brake fluid has been neglected.”

The 'mix and match' service costs from around £200 to £500.
