Toyota took the pre-registration crown in May, with a total of 24 cars pre-registered, according to figures issued by the SMMT.

The total number for all manufacturers was 74, with a gross revenue value of £1.13 million. Ford pre-registered 15, Honda nine, Vauxhall and BMW seven, Citroen six, Hyundai four and Mercedes and Peugeot one each.

The Supply of New Cars Order 2000 requires manufacturers to publish the number of pre-registered cars supplied and the gross income received in their sale. The information is published monthly.
