Derek Cook is making a comeback in the motor industry with the resurrection of his Motor Solutions internet-based discount motoring service.

The former DC Cook chief executive has set up the business with backing from Leeds United chairman Peter Risdale, who becomes non-executive chairman, and British American Racing managing director Craig Pollock.

Motor Solutions, scheduled for launch in January, will source new and used cars at fleet-type discounts and provide low-cost servicing and repairs. It will sell cars through affinity partners, likely to include supermarkets, finance firms, major fleets and motoring-related organisations.

DC Cook, which launched the original Motor Solutions operation in summer 2000, collapsed at the start of the year with debts exceeding £27m. (November 21, 2001)
