Hyundai Car (UK) plans to take its products and services to the customer after launching a direct supply initiative with its dealer network.

Direct 2 You, which mirrors the 'virtual showroom' operation launched last year by Kia Cars UK and Perry Group, is a joint venture based in Slough, Berks, with Platts Hyundai of High Wycombe.

The concept involves franchising territories without the significant investment in dealership premises by operating satellite outlets in neighbouring territories.

Platts' customer service team fulfils sales and aftersales enquiries from a retail shop unit by taking product and services to the customer at their home or work.

Andrew McMillan, Hyundai regional director, said: "This business model is entirely customer focused and is committed to eliminating the hassle that people can typically experience in the motoring purchases."

Hyundai estimates that a dealer's operating costs will be around 80% lower than running a dealership. "We are pleased to be involving our dealer network in this initiative at a time when dealers are in general being involved to a lesser degree in their franchise's plans," said Mr McMillan.
