A computerised vehicle scanner is being tested by CarScan at its Edinburgh headquarters in a project backed by Ford subsidiary Kwik-Fit.
The system is claimed to be a world-first, using computer scanner to replace a mechanic to test performance and condition of a vehicle.
If the system gains consumer approval, a full UK and European rollout will begin at the end of 2000.
