Ford Pro has revealed its new zero-emissions E-Tourneo Custom MPV as it looks to take on Stellantis’ fully electrified MPV line-up from Peugeot, Citroen and Vauxhall.
One of four new Ford Pro electric vehicles (EV) to be launched in Europe by 2024, the all-new E-Tourneo Custom will arrive in UK showrooms in H1 next year and claims a range of up to 230 miles and 125kW DC fast charging.
It forms part of a line-up, developed and manufactured in partnership with Volkswagen, which also includes plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and all-wheel drive diesel options.
An onboard 11kW AC three-phase charger is capable of fully recharging the battery in less than eight hours, and a 15-80% recharge takes around 41 minutes using a 125kW DC fast charger, Ford claims.
“Whether it’s an active family trip at the weekend or shuttling execs to the airport in style, comfort and refinement, E-Tourneo Custom’s all-electric powertrain, advanced connectivity, cutting-edge design and new luxury features make it a compelling choice,” said Hans Schep, general manager, Ford Pro, Europe.
“The Tourneo brand has always stood for space and versatility – now we’re extending the appeal to a new generation of discerning EV buyers seeking performance and comfort.”
Stellantis' Peugeot, Citroen and Vauxhall brands made their MPV line-up of Rifter, Traveller, Berlingo, SpaceTourer, Combo and Vivaro models EV-only back in January.
The move aligned with the car manufacturing giant’s move to make its Ellesmere Port plant its European centre for electric commercial vehicle production.
Ford Pro's new zero-emissions E-Tourneo Custom MPV gives MPV customers another option, offering accommodation for up to eight occupants and flexible, track-mounted rear seating.
Standard and long wheelbase models each offer three rows of seating, with up to eight seats in E-Tourneo Custom and a maximum of nine seats in Tourneo Custom PHEV and EcoBlue diesel-powered models.
Among its other features are hands-free power side doors, a B&O audio system, digital key cards, a panoramic glass roof and a tilting steering wheel.
The E-Tourneo Custom also offers a maximum towing capacity of 2,000kg
PHEV versions of the new Tourneo Custom use a parallel hybrid system employing a 2.5‑litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine for long-distance cruising, as well as an electric motor and 11.8kWh useable battery pack enabling pure-electric driving range of 31 miles.
Ford’s latest-generation EcoBlue diesel engines in 136PS, 150PS or 170PS power outputs are also offered in combination with a choice of a new eight-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox.
The new Tourneo Custom also introduces an all-wheel drive option which distributes torque between the axles via an electronically controlled coupling.
