Cupra retailers are poised to add more models to their showroom following the official unveiling of the Spanish brand’s new zero-emissions Tavascan SUV.
The new electric vehicle (EV), which will sit alongside the Born hatchback in the brand’s EV line-up, will be offered with a 286PS rear-wheel-drive powertrain or a dual-motor all-wheel drive version - known as VZ - producing 340PS.
Cupra said the high performance VZ versions can reach 31mph in just 2.4 seconds and accelerate from zero to 62mph in 5.6 seconds.
All variants use a 77kWh battery, providing a range of around 341 miles for the single motor and 321 miles for the dual motor variant.
An additional 62 miles of range can be added in as little as seven minutes, using a rapid charger, according to Cupra, with a charge from 10% to 80% taking just under half an hour using a 135kW charging point.
First revealed in 2019. The production version carries over the coupe silhouette and aggressive front end design which incorporates air channels in the bonnet.
The interior architecture is also new for the brand, with a large T-shaped central console giving a wraparound cockpit-style feel to the driver.
The Cupra Tavascan is 4,644mm long, 1,861mm wide, 1,597mm high and has a wheelbase of 2,766mm. It sits above the existing Formentor SUV in the brand's model range.
Inside, a 15-inch infotainment touchscreen – the largest so far in a Cupra model – is fitted, with newly designed and developed software.
The Tavascan also integrates, for the first time, a high-fidelity 12-speaker sound system developed in collaboration with premium audio firm Sennheiser.
In 2022 Cupra's new car registrations grew by 89.7% to 14,383 units.
Year-to-date to the end of March, the brand's registrations were up 177.9% to 5,267 units.
Back in June last year the brand confirmed a growth plan that will see it launch three new cars over the next three years as it targets annual sales of 500,000 units globally.
