The new Toyota Corolla (pictured) will go on sale next year in five body styles, including three and five-door hatchbacks (built at Burnaston), a saloon, an estate, and for the first time an MPV called the Corolla Verso.
Toyota says the new hatch, saloon and estate have been designed with the European market in mind from concepts developed at the ED2 design centre in France, while the Verso is born out of a Japanese concept.
Engine choice will include two 2.0-litre common rail diesels and a selection of three TTT-i 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8 petrol engines. There will also be a range-topping T Sport Version, featuring Vehicle Stability Control, Brake Assist and the same 1.8 engine used in the Celica T Sport, linked to a six-speed gearbox.
Technical innovations include an optional turn-by-turn or full map DVD-based sat nav system.
The new Corolla, marking the model's ninth incarnation, will make its debut at the Frankfurt motor show on September 11, with UK sales beginning early next year.
