Cox Automotive has launched a new global mobility division that will aim to harness its knowhow in fleet logistics, vehicle lifecycle management and electric vehicle (EV) batteries.
Building on the recent acquisitions of Spiers New Technologies and FleetMaster, Cox Automotive Mobility will aim to “bring together data, insights and expertise to deliver targeted mobility support” in the US, UK, Continental Europe, Canada and Mexico.
According to Cox, its new division is a response to the rising popularity of business models including short-term rental, vehicle-as-a-service and vehicle subscription.
It encompasses four business solution areas – Fleet Services, Fleet Operations, EV Battery Solutions and Emerging Ventures.
A new “industry standard” battery health diagnostic tool and battery recycling services will be part of the new venture along with a suite of technology that will allow fleet and mobility providers to “pivot and adapt their products and services to meet the needs of this ever-changing marketplace”, Cox said.
Cox Automotive International president, Martin Forbes, said: “Mobility offers a huge growth opportunity for us across all our international markets.
“Cox Automotive is at the forefront of technology in this area and can offer unrivalled expertise and solutions to both customers and prospects alike.”
He added: “By combining the scale and expertise of one global vision, with bespoke market-led data and insights, we are enabling a safer, cleaner and more connected transportation ecosystem with operational efficiencies for our partners worldwide.”
Paul Humphreys has been appointed as the managing director of Mobility, Cox Automotive International, overseeing strategy, execution and operations outside the US, reporting to Forbes.
Humphreys said: “More consumers are choosing to use vehicles as and when they need them as opposed to owning them outright.
“The definition of ownership is being redefined, enabled by ever-evolving finance and lease models.
“Through Cox Automotive Mobility, we are empowering our customers and partners in the UK and Europe to take advantage of the opportunities the mobility landscape has to offer.”
