Volkswagen premiered the new Tiguan SUV at the Frankfurt Motor Show yesterday.

The new model will be based on the MQB platform, which allows weight reductions and increases in interior space.

Its weight has been reduced by more than 50kg compared to the previous model.

The boot volume of the new Tiguan can take on up to 615 litres of cargo (loaded to the back of the rear bench); when the rear seat backrests are folded, its capacity increases to 1,655 litres, a gain of 145 litres.

Eight engines will be available with power outputs ranging between 115ps and 240ps.

Fuel consumption and CO2 figures are not yet available.

At the same time Volkswagen revealed a Tiguan R-Line and a concept Tiguan GTE, a plug-in hybrid.
