Welsh dealership Ron Skinner and Sons suffered a major fire at its Tredegar showroom which is now under investigation by the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Gwent Police.

More than 100 firefighters from across Wales were deployed to the Tafarnaubach Industrial Estate facility late in the evening of August 16 to tackle the blaze which took several hours to extinguish.

The independent used car dealership, owned by Philip Skinner and his family, will remain closed until further notice.

Extensive damage included a collapsed ceiling and the destruction of hundreds of low-mileage used cars with an average value of £20,000 each, in addition to fallen debris in neighbouring gardens and smoke damage to local homes.

Local media reported that the community has expressed sorrow for the Ron Skinner family and concern for the loss of a business that has operated for over 30 years.

Blaenau Gwent Member of the Senedd Alun Davies told the BBC that the community would be would be "devastated".

"I have contacted Blaenau Gwent council and the Welsh government this morning to make sure that the business gets all the support it needs to recover and to rebuild," he said.
