The most sought-after used car so far this year is the Ford Fiesta - despite being discontinued, a new study has revealed.
This comes after recent warnings from experts after a spike in Ford Fiesta thefts - with over 2,000 being stolen in the UK in 2023.
The data, carried out by the experts at Uswitch Car Insurance, analysed factors such as average number of listings, median used price and depreciation rate over a 3-year period to uncover the second-hand cars considered most desirable.
The Ford Fiesta was the most desirable second-hand car, with the highest overall score of 8.71. Its popularity is evident from the highest number of listings (11,129) and a moderate average used price (£12,997), making it an attractive option for many buyers.
The Fiat 500 and Volkswagen Polo shared the second spot with an overall score of 8.44. The Fiat 500 was the most affordable on the list, with an average used price of £7,809 that appeals to those looking for a stylish, compact city car.
With its slightly higher price (£14,243) and low depreciation rate (11%), the Polo offers excellent value for those prioritising longevity and value.
The Mini Hatch and Volkswagen Golf tied in fourth place with an overall score of 8.23. The Golf has a higher average used price (£19,495) but offers a blend of performance and practicality. The Mini Hatch, with a lower depreciation rate (10%), appeals to those seeking a car with character and a good resale value.
The Volkswagen Golf was named as the most in-demand second-hand car with almost 12,000 listings followed by the Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus.
The Fiat 500 is crowned was the most affordable second-hand car with a median used price of £7,809. Toyota Aygo and the Kia Picanto landed in second and third place respectively.
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Mini Hatch and Volkswagen Polo were found to be the second-hand cars that hold their value best.
