In June 2024, the EU new car market grew, with new registrations increasing by 4.3% to a total of 1,089,925 units. This surge was driven by strong performances in Italy (+15.1%), Germany (+6.1%), and Spain (+2.2%). In contrast, France saw a decline of -4.8% last month.
Electric vehicle (EV) registrations decreased by -1.0% in April, totaling 156,408 units. Year-to-date, electric vehicles represent 12.5% of the market.

Hybrid-electric vehicles were the only powertrain category to post growth, with registrations increasing by 26.4% in June to 321,959 units. Plug-in hybrid registrations declined by -19.9%, with significant decreases in Belgium (-49.2%), France (-21.7%), and Germany (-3.4%).
Petrol car sales decreased by -0.7%, while diesel saw a slight decline of -0.9%.
Sue Robinson, chief executive of the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA), commenting, said: "It is disappointing to see sales of new battery-electric cars drop again in June, following a 12% drop in May. The year-to-date EU electric vehicle market share continues to hover between 12-13%, slightly below that of the UK.
"In the wake of the European Parliament election and the decision by the EU to impose tariffs on Chinese electric cars, NFDA will continue to observe developments in the European market going into the second half of the year and the impact this may have on the UK market and consumers."
